The British Shorthair breed probably evolved from domestic cats introduced to the British Isles by Roman colonists some 2000 years ago. The typical British Shorthair cat has a sweet and gentle nature and truly is a wonderful house pet. The Shorthair is generally calm and intelligent and readily responds to affection, hugs and kisses. Although it has a short coat, it is quite dense and thick and needs regular brushing and combing to keep it in peak condition.
